8 Hour Itinerary: One Day in Santa Monica & Venice, California

Trip Title:  Food and Sights in Santa Monica and Venice – 6 Stops

Travelers:  Two Males in our Mid-30’s.

Sights Seen:  Sidecar Donuts, Perry’s Cafe and Rentals, Venice Beach, Santa Monica Beach, Venice Boardwalk, Venice Pier, Santa Monica Pier


Start:  Head from Hotel (Huntley Hotel) over to breakfast.  Travel time only 9 minutes, .4 miles.

Stop 1:  9am:  Sidecar Donuts

Description:  Start the day with a Doughnuts and coffee!

Best Item/Attribute:  Maple Bacon Doughnut

Tips:  They have daily specials made fresh in the store so get adventurous!

Duration there:  1 hour

Cost:  $~4 per donut; we had 4 so we spent about $20 on donuts and coffee between two people


Travel Time and Distance to Next Stop:  Approx. 20 minutes, 0.7 mi

Stop 2:  10:30 am:  Perry’s Cafe and Beach Rentals

Description:  Pick up some bike rentals at Perry’s Cafe and Rentals.

Best Item/Attribute:  Right on the beach.  They have food too if you want.

Tips:  The bikes here are a little more expensive, you can find cheaper bikes if you go off the beach.

Duration: 5 minutes.

Cost:  $25 for they day for each person.


Travel Event:  Biking the Santa Monica Beach Down Towards Venice Pier 

Sites:  Venice Beach, Santa Monica Beach, Venice Pier, Santa Monica Pier

Travel Time and Distance to Next Stop:  Approx. 20 minutes, 0.7 mi by bicycle

Stop 3:  11:15am Venice Pier and Venice Boardwalk

Description:  Very famous area of Los Angeles, home of famous Muscle Beach and “White Men Can’t Jump” Basketball Courts and other movie/tv filming sights.

Best Item/Attribute:  People watching and vibe.

Tips:  Although it gets crowded, it’s fun on a weekend to see the people out.  Good food and drinks on the Venice boardwalk also.

Duration: 2 hours

Cost:  FREE

Stop 4: 2pm  Back to Perry’s to Drop off the bike

Travel Time:  20 minutes by foot

Stop 5: 3pm  Pick up sandwiches at Bay Cities Deli

Description:  Stop for late lunch at Bay Cities Italian deli.

Best Item/Attribute:  Godmother sandwich

Tip:  This place is always busy so you can actually order online and pick up or grab a pre-made sandwich at the counter.

Duration:  45 minutes

Travel Time:  20 minutes by foot

Stop 6: 5pm  Penthouse, Huntley Hotel

Description:  Happy hour drinks with a view!

Duration:  90 minutes

Total Time:  about 8 hours depending on your pace

Cost:  about $65 with food/drinks and bike rentals per person
